Exploring Minimalism: Form, Color, and Emotion
This comparative study was done as part of the Strategies in Creative and Performing Arts. The aim was to compare different artworks and styles. In this comparative analysis, I delve into the transformative ideas of minimalism by examining Kazimir Malevich’s “White on White” alongside Josef Albers’ extensive “Homage to the Square” series. Malevich’s work employs a monochromatic palette to focus on pure geometric form, inviting viewers into a contemplative, almost spiritual experience. In contrast, Albers’ series uses vibrant color interactions and intricate nested squares to create visually engaging compositions that stir emotional responses. Through this work, I explore the interplay between simplicity and complexity—demonstrating that even within a reduced visual language, art can communicate profound and diverse ideas.
